Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy
The Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy is the competitive sports program of the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation. Since 2011, the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation has offered the performance group talent development program in addition to the national team programs. From this, the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy was established in the Eastern Region, which has also offered a school performance sports model since 2014. Since 2018, the Academy or School Program program has also been offered to female softball players.
Since 2018, baseball players have once again had the opportunity to complete their mandatory service at Army Sports Centers (Heeressportzentrum). Army athletes train alongside students during morning practice sessions from February through June. In each of the first two years, one baseball player was allowed to do his mandatory service at the Army Sports Center, and in each of the following two years there were two.
As preparation for the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy, which is offered from senior high school age, the Austrian Junior Academy was created in 2016 in cooperation with the regional associations. Four regional performance bases offer selected talented players in the U12, U14 and U16 age groups additional weekly training sessions with a focus on competitive sports development.
Fortunately, the number of participants in the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy School Cooperation is steadily increasing, which is why the ABA School Cooperation is stretching the capacities of the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation. For this reason, the regular Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy was outsourced to the Lower Austrian and Viennese Regional Federation with the school year 2020/21.
The Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy currently cooperates with a federal high school with a focus on sports. The Ballsport Gymnasium Wien is our main cooperation partner. Students are offered up to 6 training sessions per week. The Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy season runs parallel to the school year, with indoor and outdoor training sessions.
In the talent development program of the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation, in addition to baseball-specific content, basic athletic training, mobility, conditioning and strength training are also part of the program. The goal is to prepare the young players for a later career as a competitive athlete and to teach them the most important prerequisites for this. Hiroyuki Sakanashi, Benjamin Salzmann and Sascha Obermayer, who also coordinates the Austrian Baseball Softball Federation - Academy, are available as coaches. For softball, Gabriella Gonzalez is on the coaching staff.
