Baseball Austria

The highest Austrian league, the Baseball Bundesliga, is played throughout Austria with a total of 9 teams. The league is further divided into two regional divisions (East and West) with 4 and 5 teams respectively. After the regular season, in which 26 games per team are absolved, the state championship in baseball is played out in the playoffs. Below that, there are the 2nd Bundesligen (Central, East, West) and the Landesligen (East, Tyrol, Vorarlberg) as the third highest division.

Internationally, Austria is represented annually by two clubs in the Europa Cup. Already in 1988, the Vienna Homerunners (now know as Metrostars) participated in such a tournament in Antwerp.

The Austrian national team took part in a qualifying tournament for the European Championship for the first time in 1990. At two big B-Pool European Championship tournaments in Vienna in 2013 and 2015, which caused a huge public interest, the promotion to the A-Pool was still just missed. In 2019, after the long-awaited promotion, Team Austria finished 10th at the A-Pool European Championships in Germany and thus managed to stay in the class. The next attempt will follow in 2023 at the European Championships in the Czech Republic.
